Thrifting Ed. 5: Finding a bargain at your local Market.

Markets are something global and known to be a place of bargains. That is if you go to the right place.  I am an avid lover of a bargain, so I absolutely love to hear about a market and go check it out! I have been to many all over the place but as Glasgow is my predominant hang out place, this is where I often bargain hunt.

The picture attached, is a photo I took at a market I went to in Shawlands, Southside Glasgow, with my friend. We love to go check out these things and make a day out of it. It is a great way to catch up with friends and snatch some deals. The picture above showcased what was really just a make shift stall, with a women selling some of her old wardrobe out of a box and on a rail. It was very chill and fairly priced. This to me is what I think of the true essence of thrifting to be, supporting the total idea of sustainability. From this market trip in Shawlands, I managed to bag some cute black trousers for £3, mission accomplished.

Another positive to going along to markets, is you can always count on some good scran being available, the photo above is of a small business named @tennesses_treats on Instagram, based in Glasgow. Just one of the food stalls, selling some pretty delicious looking treats.

Finding a decent market can seem a bit daunting when you are first starting out thrifting, there really isn’t a guide as to where to go, and it is different all around the country. A great way to keep up to date with what type of things are happening thrifting related, is following Facebook pages for your area they are usually very supportive of local markets and showcase the dates they are popping up. You could also find a social media influencer native to your city, who is into this sustainable idea, I am sure they will have some opinions on where to go, they always do.
